How do you refer to someone who is gay in Spanish? ?
I would like to know both the proper, or polite, ways, and the improper, or insulting, ways. I am gay and I am learning Spanish, and I was just wondering. Thanks in advance for your answers.
Well in spanish we also say gay!

El es gay - he is gay

the polite way
el es homosexual - he is hommosexual (gay)
ella es lesbiana - shes is lesbian
What is the spanish tv show about gay teens?
There was a clip on youtube i saw a little while ago and it centered around this one gay teen guy and everyone seemed to like him. It looked like it was made by the crew of degrassi (by that i mean the same type of story telling) but in spanish and centered around a gay teen. Any ideas?
There is this show called Física o Química with a cute gay couple, Fer and David. It's also Spanish.
What's a great Spanish-speaking country that is gay-friendly?
Hello, I'm a 23-year old gay woman and I speak a good bit of Spanish, though I'm not fluent. I've been giving serious thought to going to live in a Spanish-speaking country for a while. I suspect that I could become fluent in less than a year.

Which Spanish-speaking countries are gay-friendly? In addition to being gay-friendly, I'd like it to be a place with lots of nice people, good food, and an interesting culture.
I agree totally with xinoxano- stick with Spain. Compared to Latin America, it tends to be much more cosmopolitan and liberal in Spain. Spain is one of the few countries that allows gay marriage, and is currently the only country that has language in their constitution that prevents discrimination against transgendered people.

Keep in mind, though, that the accent is much different than what you would hear in the Americas- as well as some minor grammar differences.

Food is amazing- it's definitely not what you'd find in Mexico (though I have a soft spot for Mexican food). All sorts of interesting dishes, including gazpacho, paella, jabugo, tapas, tortilla (the original dish, not the tortilla you see in Latin America), marzipan, turrón, the list goes on and on. Spain is riddled with historical sites to see, including the Alhambra, the Roman aqueducts of Segovia, the Alcazar of Toledo, El Escorial in Madrid, the ancient walled city of Ávila, the Camino de Santiago, as well as countless beauty in the diverse countryside.

As for culture, Spain is sort of a melting pot. In the northwest, Galicia, they have a strong Celtic influence, as well as their own language that is similar to Portuguese. Be sure to see Cape Finisterre, the westernmost point of mainland Spain, as well as the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Catalonia, Valencia, and Aragon, in the northeast part of Spain, is part of the ancient kingdom of Aragon, which united with Castile to form Spain as we know it. They have their own unique culture, as well as a distinct language, Catalan, which is sort of a mixture between French and Castilian (the national language of Spain, also known as "Spanish").

A must-see in this region is Barcelona, a city, which in my opinion, surpasses Paris in greatness. Too many beautiful sites to mention, but a few you should see are Las Ramblas, the Sagrada Familia, and the Parc Güell.

Andalusia- perhaps the least European part of Spain. This is named after what the Muslims who once ruled Spain for several centuries named their kingdom- Al Andalus. Arabic influence runs deep in this part of the country. You will find Moorish architecture everywhere you go- from the Patio of Lions in the Alhambra, to the grand mosque of Cordoba. Don't forget to stop and see traditional flamenco on the streets of Seville- afterwards, you can visit Christopher Columbus' tomb. Andalusia is also home to the world-famous Costa del Sol, the "Florida of Europe".

If you're seeking warm climates, check out the Balearic Islands, in the Mediterranean, or the Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa. Both are warm and sunny, but are more geared towards tourists.

Central Spain- the heart of the country. Here you will find such treasures as the University of Salamanca (one of the oldest in Europe), the windmills of La Mancha (made famous in Don Quixote), as well as the showcase capital of Madrid. Worth mentioning, the famous Chueca district of Madrid, is widely regarded as the country's largest gay village.

Last, but not least, is the region of Spain closest to my heart, in terms of uniqueness. At the apex of the Bay of Biscay, near the border with France, lies the home of the Basque people. This unique region, in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains, is less crowded than the beaches of the south. The Basques have their own language, which is completely unrelated from any other language on earth. Their contributions to both Spanish and French societies are numerous, including their own sport, called jai-alai (pelota in Castilian, a type of handball game). The famous French beret was originally Basque. Two cities worth seeing are Donostia (San Sebastián in Castilian), and Bilbo (Bilbao). This area is also home to many winter sports in the Pyrenees.

I know, I sound too much like a guidebook, but that's pretty much, in essence, the areas of Spain that I'm familiar with.
Where is the best and safest place to learn Spanish as a gay woman, Nicaragua or Guatemala?
I'm planning to travel abroad to learn Spanish for 4 weeks and I'm not exactly the most feminine chick around, so I want to make sure that my gayness isn't going to make me a target. I just want to make sure I'm safe in my travels.
Neither.

Nicaragua is very unsafe to visit. Guatemala is also going through a lot of street crimes as gangs are now a common sight. For some time there were many women being beheaded by some wacko in the capital.

I would go to Costa Rica, Panama, or Colombia. Costa Rican Spanish is very good and Colombian Spanish is one of the most purest forms still left (especially in Bogota). I am not Colombian, but those would be my three choices in the Central America/northern South America region.

I changed my middle name to "el Holto" on Facebook and someone told me that it means I'm gay in spanish. True?
I've done google translate and spanish to english dictionary and nothing comes up about "gay." Is this true or false?
It means nothing. Trust me I majored in Spanish in college and got my masters degree... I have been a Spanish teacher since 2001. I would know. el Holto isn't a word in Spanish... Tell your retard friend to take Spanish class. Thank You!

No significa nada. Confía en mí me especialicé en español en la universidad y obtuve mi título de maestros ... He sido profesora de español desde 2001. Me gustaría saber. El Holto no es una palabra en español ... Dile a tu amigo retraso para tomar la clase de español. Gracias!
How do you say gay in Castilian Spanish?
And how do you pronounce it? Please give gay, as in the other word for homosexual, and the offense term.
in Castilian Spanish, "gay" is pronounced 'gah-ee'

In Latinoamerican Spanish, pronunciation is similar to the original English word.
How do you say "gay man", "bisexual" and "transgender" in Spanish?
We want to translate a few words into Spanish to make a design. I can find the word for lesbian (lesbiana) but I'm not finding Spanish translations for gay, bisexual, or transgender. Is it because those words don't exist in the language? What words are used? I don't want to use any terms that are offensive in my graphic.
bisexual and gay are the same in spanish
transgender is transexual
hope you find it of help
