Are there any tips to playing a slightly older role? Hi. I'm a 23-year old actor that's big into amateur community theater. A local group is putting on "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", and I need some tips.
I will be auditioning for Brick, but there are a few problems. I look and come off as up to five years younger than I am, and I am usually cast for teen roles.
I was wondering if anyone had any tips for playing slightly -older- roles than one is accustomed to, since I've never played anything older than myself. |
| Well, to start I am an aspiring actor myself. I have been in this situation before. Honestly, I think that you need to not worry so much about your appearance and making you look older and focus on acting older. So when you come into the audition be very professional. If the character you are auditioning for is an older role than work on being older but in a personality sense not a appearance sense. Hope I helped. Break a leg! |
Does anyone know where i can find the clip of this? Its an older amateur music video with black girls...? singing in the hood talkin about how they are gonna pour one out for their dead homies and "how we "posed" to get by". Its a terrible song and video. But its funny and i wanna watch it again and i dont know where i saw it. |

What would be a decent telephoto lens to get for our older Cannon EOS Rebel XT DSLR? We've heard of other non Cannon brands of lenses but aren't sure of what is good. We are amateurs at photography and just want maybe the next step up from the standard 18-55mm lens that came with the camera. We'd use it mostly for outdoors and nature and don't want to have to use a tripod every time we want to use the telephoto. If that makes sense. |
| I'd go with the Canon 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens. It doesn't offer as much reach as the 75-300mm/70-300mm and doesn't have the optical quality of the 70-300mm, but @ 300mm you're going to start getting lens sway, resulting in blurry images and you'd almost need a tripod for sharp pictures at that focal point. Since you'd like to stay away from tripods, I'd go with the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS. Relatively cheap, good optical quality for the money, good reach with the 250mm, and doesn't require a tripod. |
15 year old amateur photographer and I am looking at either the GF1 or T3i? I am looking at getting a new camera. I either go for a DSLR (Canon T3i) or go a little cheaper and get a Micro four thirds (Panasonic GF1). I want a camera that takes great pictures and video. I am a casual photographer and I dont think I am going to go pro. I want something that will last a while and that I won't grow out of; something good for travel. |
| Since you are considering the GF1 I think you should look at the G12 ( www.dpreview.com/reviews/CanonG12… ) and the P7000 ( www.dpreview.com/reviews/q42010hi… ). It's hard to recommend a a final choice without knowing a lot more about your planed use. |
What is a reasonable distance to swim in an indoor pool in 60 minutes for a 30 year old amateur swimmer? Hi, I swimm 3 or 4 times a week. I try to swimm as much as I can in an hour or so. I like to challange myself. What would be a good distance to achive for someone my age. In my best days I´ve swam about 3400 meters.
Thank very much. |
Depending on your background and ability, 3400 is a good distance. I'd suggest that you set a goal of 3700 to 4000 in 60 minutes. At 4000, you're averaging 90 seconds per 100m.
Again, someone your age might have a tremendous background in swimming as compared to you ... or there might be a huge ability disparity so, it is not reasonable to say that 3400 is a good distance for someone your age ... except that it IS a good distance. Just don't compare yourself to others unless you are planning to compete. |
Gonna play soccer against another team that has players older and stronger then us? Can we beat them? We made an amateur soccer team for a church competition. We have to vs a team tomorrow that consists of 18 yr olds, while our team has like 2 18s and the reat are high schoolers. Is there anyway to beat them? |
| Dive a lot to get free kicks. Because the opposition is bigger they think they can probably muscle you off of the ball but if you fall over then chances are you'll get a free kick. Shirt pull on the blind side of the referee, they will. Try and keep possession and ride tackles, apart from where you think you can fall over (see above) and get a free kick. Keep your back four solid and play them high up the pitch to catch the opposition with the offside trap. Hit them on the break, that way you aren't committing too many players forward at any one time. There's no such thing as a long ball, it's a long pass (provided it's accurate). Remember basics like if you are a striker and your team hasn't got possession then you are a defender, get back and defend. You may not win with the above tactics but at worst you might get a 0-0 out of it. How often do amateur boxers fight on average? If a 14 year old amateur boxer was ready to fight how many bouts would he expect to have in a year? |
| anywhere from between 20 - 40 per year. |
What photoshop is good for a amateur photographer? I was wondering what type of adobe photoshop was good for a 14 year old amateur girl. It has to be affordable but still do things like edit out imperfections, make people skinner etc :)
Thanks |
| Yes, GIMP would get you started without cost. However, if you really want a Photoshop program the one you should get is Photoshop Elements. Version 8 is the latest and costs $99 or less. |
How much does Amateur Boxing Gloves weigh (used for bouts)? (for 18 and older bouts)? Bring some stats about USA boxing Association, or the A.B.A. |
| Amateur bouts use 12 oz. gloves. |
Can you take amateur photographs on the London Underground? I'm a 17 year old amateur photographer, with a DSLR camera. I'm going to London on Tuesday 6th, and I was wanting to take a few photos on the Underground eg. Tube station signs, shot of escalators, tubes going by that sort of thing.
Am I allowed to do this? Or do I need to get some permit of some sort? If I asked permission from one of the workers, what would they say?
Can anyone help? |
Don't worry, you are very unlikely to be stopped when taking photos in the London underground. The only time you will likely be confronted is if you set up a tripod, this is a tripping hazard and is certainly not allowed. I visit London at least twice a month and I use the underground frequently. Every station I visit has at least half a dozen people with cameras taking shots of the trains and the escalators (well, the main stations anyway), and I have never seen anybody confronted.. Believe me, those stations are BUSY and the staff have better thing to do :o).
I will warn you to be careful about showing off your camera in the underground, always be aware of thieves.
Here are some shots I have taken at London tube stations...
